Conflict
Gatsby
Gatsby's main conflict in the story is that he wants to win Daisy back. He had done anything and everything in order to make something of himself (build up his riches) so that he could easily win over Daisy. Everything he did and owned was for Daisy, and tragically, he took the blame for Myrtle's death so that Daisy wouldn't get into any trouble, which would lead to his death. Gatsby lived his life for Daisy and she would also be the reason why he would meet his untimely end.
Daisy
Daisy's biggest conflict would be choosing in between her young love and her husband. One thing that Daisy lacks would be the ability to speak or stand up for herself, and at the very beginning of the book, it's made blatantly obvious that she knows Tom is cheating on her, yet she won't do anything about it. She would only make the choice when it was forced upon her, and her choice in the end was Tom, just because Gatsby had already died at that point. Nick says that the way that Daisy deals with her problems is by "retreating into their money" which is true because after Gatsby's death, Tom and Daisy moved elsewhere. They had moved many times prior, and it can be safely assumed that they will move again because they do it every so often.
