The Good and the Bad
I liked the enchanting mystery that came with Gatsby and the amazing love that he had for Daisy after all this time. I also like the first person perspective that Fitzgerald wrote in because it allows the reader to feel more connected with the characters and to really feel their emotions. My least favourite aspect of the book is that it’s written in First person narrative. There’s so much of the story that’s lost when you write it from a single person’s perspective.
ChangesI would change the ending. I honestly feel like a whole lot more would have and could have happened there. I mean, in reality, what makes Tom credible enough to reason that Gatsby killed Myrtle when it was HIS car that hit her and Mr. Wilson knew that? It just doesn’t make sense. I think Fitzgerald just wanted to kill Gatsby in some ridiculous twist of fate and that was the only way he could think to do it.

RecomendationsThe Great Gatsby is a good book, but I wouldn’t recommend it to others because of Fitzgerald’s habit of being verbose when describing the placement of someone’s house. His style of writing is just not one that I think many people would enjoy.

SuggestionsI would warn the students about immense amount of vocabulary they are going to need to understand as well as teach them how to summarize one of Fitzgerald’s paragraphs into a few sentences about what is really important.
